Abstract
Using a quadrupole mass spectrometer, ionization efficiency curves have been obtained for both positive and negative ions resulting from the electron‐impact ionization and dissociation of PbCl2, PbBr2, and PbClBr molecules. Both simple and ion‐pair processes were identified. The values of the appearance potentials for the fragment ions indicate they are formed with little or no excess kinetic energy, hence the following ionization potential (I.P.) and electron affinity (E.A.) values were calculated: I.P. [PbCl2]=10.3, I.P. [PbBr2]=10.2, I.P. [PbClBr]=10.4, I.P. [PbCl]=7.5, I.P. [PbBr]=7.8, E.A. [PbCl]=1.0, and E.A. [PbBr]=0.9 eV. The accuracy is better than ±0.2 eV.Keywords
