Abstract
1. Among schooling fish, the younger stages of the bass (Morone labrax) provide an instance in which the schooling habit, though strong, is not stereotyped into fixed forms of behaviour.2. Observations were made on individual fish in connection with their attraction for one another, a special point being made of observing their behaviour in front of a mirror.3. The data so obtained are summarised in the light of their bearing on the problems of school formation. Keywords
