Interaction of nitrogen with tantalum

Abstract
The adsorption of nitrogen by tantalum occurs with a maximum sticking probability of 0.22, which is independent of pressure and temperature between 4 × 10–8 and 4 × 10–7 torr and between 296 and 530°K. At temperatures above 900°K rapid absorption occurs. The efficiency of tantalum as a catalyst for the isotope exchange reaction 28N2+30N2= 2 29N2 increases with increase in temperature and in uptake of nitrogen.
