Abstract
To test the hypothesis that Chianina cattle might have some Bos indicus ancestry, blood samples were obtained from 22 Chianina crossbred steers and 24 Brahma crossbred steers and rested for specific Y chromosome characteristics. Evidence indicated that B. indicus was not involved in the development of the breed. The limitations of Y chromosome studies of cattle were discussed. Keywords
