Some Observations on the Chemical Stability of Ragweed Pollen Fractions

Abstract
It has been demonstrated that urea can cause destruction of both antigenic and allergenic determinants of DWSR. Although treatment with dilute hydrochloric acid may have appeared to destroy preferentially the antigenic determinants, as revealed by the classical precipitin test, and to leave the allergenic determinants Intact, cross-neutralization P -K tests and the BDB hemagglutination technique showed that the determinants responsible for both skin activity and antigenicity had been affected by the acid treatment. From these results it was not possible to conclude if the antigenic and allergenic activities of DWSR were due to identical or different determinants.
