Abstract
The nonlinear coupling of energy between the polarization eigenmodes is shown to affect both the relative phase and amplitude ratio of a light beam propagating in a birefringent fiber. These two quantities determine the polarization state at the output. The general formalism and some specific numerical examples are presented. Keywords
