Quantum computation with optical cavities and decaying trapped ions

Abstract
Two-qubit logical gates are proposed on the basis of two atoms trapped in a cavity setup. Losses in the interaction by spontaneous transitions are suppressed efficiently by employing adiabatic transitions. Dynamical and geometrical conditional phase gates are suggested for the two limiting cases of small and large values of the atomic emission rate compared to the atom-cavity coupling. This method provides fidelity and success rate of its gates arbitrarily close to unity. Hence, it is suitable for performing quantum computation.
