Abstract
Several techniques and apparatus for surface sampling are critically discussed. The worker in institutional sanitation is often handicapped when he attempts to use sampling techniques commonly used in other fields. Efforts should be expanded in basic research in this field. The most important challenges lie in the areas of sampling technology, sampling statistics, epidemiological significance, and fundamental aspects of solid surface bacteriology. Keywords
