Previous work on the isothermal measurement of the retention indices of a group of organotins has been extended to temperature programming. Little effect on the indices of alkanes has been shown by the compounds. The indices on Apiezon do not differ significantly with heating rate. The means of the set of compounds do differ significantly from the mean of the set run isothermally. The indices follow the same order as the molar refractions with only one reversal. On a polar column the indices showed random variations with heating rate. The indices on the polar columns corrected for molecular weight did not show the correlation with refractive index found under isothermal operation.
