Acoustical-Paramagnetic-Resonance Study ofV3+Ions in Corundum

Abstract
An experimental and theoretical acoustical-paramagnetic-resonance study has been made on 3d2 ions (V3+ and Cr4+) in corundum. The hyperfine structure of V3+51 ions is resolved and supplementary lines are explained by both electronic and nuclear transitions (ΔM=2, Δm=1). Some combinations of coupling constants of V3+ have been measured: (14G2+G162)12=140 cm1, (G142+G152)12=130 cm1. Results from γ-irradiated ruby show that (14G2+G162)12>60 cm1 for the Cr4+ ion.
