Abstract
Questions on this topic that concern the clinician are addressed: whether it is inherited and, if so, whether Mendelian; what the segregation ratios will be; whether it is heterogeneous; how its high frequency can be accounted for; and what preventive measures are available. In several cases the question has to be reworded in order to make it sufficiently precise for it to be used in practice without misleading the patient. Framed in this fashion applicable answers are relatively easily available although many genetic puzzles remain. To date, no antenatal diagnosis is available. Keywords
