Linkage of a temperature-sensitive locus to the streptomycin region and its use in recombination studies with streptomycin mutants of Bacillus subtilis

Abstract
Transformation and transduction experiments in B. subtilis demonstrate close linkage of a temperature-sensitive mutation to the streptomycin region. Three-factor crosses locate this mutation between str and ery. Using the tms+ characteristic as the selected marker, crosses between str-d and str-r strains yield small numbers of str-s recombinants. This demonstrates the non-identical nature of the two str mutations investigated.
