Abstract
This paper presents preliminary field testing results of a State Estimation (SE) based external network solution technique. The tests were conducted at the Florida Power and Light Company using actual on-line system data and configurations. Currently, FP&L uses an external network solution based on Power Flow (PF) techniques and, therefore, direct field response comparisons between the PF and SE based techniques could be made. The results discussed in the paper verify the superiority of SE based external network solutions in a field environment. This study supports the conclusions of previous investigations based on simulated data, demonstrates the solutions applicability to very large external network solutions and points out additional advantages of SE based solutions discovered in field testing. Keywords
