Abstract
CASES reported in the literature have included dilatation of the azygos vein simulating a mediastinal tumor from various causes such as right-sided heart failure, obstruction of the superior and inferior vena cava and portal-vein hypertension.1 2 3 4 It therefore seems appropriate to present a case of dilatation of the azygos vein to such a size as to suggest strongly a mediastinal tumor requiring surgery.Case ReportMrs. P.C., a 35-year-old woman, was admitted to Glenridge Hospital on June 1, 1959, with the complaint of mid-lumbar back pain radiating bilaterally to both flanks and anteriorly toward the mid-line since the previous December.
