Aggressive Behavior in the Elderly

Abstract
Considering the rapid growth in the elderly population, the topic of aggressive behavior in the aged is becoming an issue of great concern. One focus of this paper is to critically review the pertinent literature relative to the prevalence of aggressive behavior in the elderly. Considering the paucity of etiological theories on this topic, some plausible explanations for aggressive behavior in the elderly are put forth. Furthermore, a review of current treatment interventions and an evaluation of their efficacy for managing aggressive behavior in the elderly are also presented. Finally, some recommendations for future research are discussed.
