Physical Climatology of Amchitka Island, Alaska

Abstract
The physical factors affecting seasonal climatic conditions at Amchitka are discussed. Long-term climatological data (temperature, precipitation, fog, wind) for the near-sealevel southeast end of the Island available for the period 1943–48, during which time the Island was the site of a U.S. military installation, are presented. Qualitative estimates of climatic elements in the “highlands” are discussed, and current meteorological instrumentation and its limitations are described.
