Abstract
Arteriovenous malformations complicating benign bone tumors may not be amenable to surgical treatment because of their extensive size and likelihood of recurrence or their location. Transcatheter embolization may be used as the definitive treatment or a prelude to safe surgical intervention. Patients presenting with arteriovenous malformations in association with polyostotic fibrous dysplasia and vertebral hemangioma are presented who were treated by transcatheter embolization, using Oxycel and Gelfoam. A hemodynamically significant shunt was obliterated in 1 patient and in the other an excellent clinical response was obtained facilitating subsequent surgical management. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
