The Middle Fossa Approach in the Treatment of Petrositis

Abstract
Petrous apicitis, though uncommon, is still a dreaded complication of otitis media. It can occur weeks after an apparent cure. The physician should be alert to the development of facial and retrobulbar pain during the course of treatment of otitis media. When applicable, the middle fossa approach to petrositis has the advantage of preserving the normal anatomy and activity of the ear.
