Abstract
The lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) fractions of rat kidney, heart and liver have been demonstrated by a modified histochemical procedure following electrophoresis of aqueous homogenates in starch gel. Kidney contains 7 LDH fractions while heart and liver contain 6 and 1 fractions, respectively. Butanol treatment of the homogenates prior to electrophoresis reduces the number of kidney fractions to one, while heart is unaffected. The effect of this treatment on liver is to alter the electrophoretic properties of the fraction. These results suggest that association of the enzyme with other cellular components may, in part, account for the heterogeneity of this and other oxidative enzymes. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
