Spontaneous Splenic Rupture in Early Pregnancy

Abstract
Spontaneous rupture of the spleen in pregnancy is rare and may be erroneously diagnosed as a ruptured tubal pregnancy because of the association of intra-peritoneal hemmorrhage with the signs and symptoms of pregnancy. A case is presented in which spontaneous rupture occurred in a 23-year-old multigravida in the first trimester. The diagnosis was made at laporotomy, although it is possible to diagnose this pre-operatively by noting certain features.
