Abstract
This paper reports data on the admissions, discharges, and changes in health status of eight admission cohorts to nursing homes in a jurisdiction with universally-insured nursing home and home care services. The findings are compared to those of U.S. studies and disclose differences which may reflect differences in payment mechanisms and in admission policies and procedures. The results of the study raise policy issues relevant to both Canada and the United States.Keywords
