Abstract
The magnetic quenching (field‐induced predissociation) of electronically excited I2 vapor has been measured as a function of excitation wavelength and iodine vapor pressure at fields up to 70 kG. Collision‐induced self‐quenching cross sections and magnetic predissociation efficiencies are quantitatively determined. From the latter data, a portion of the repulsive potential‐energy curve has been determined in the range 0.5–1.0 eV.
