THE ADAPTIVE VALUE OF ABSORPTION OF FATS INTO THE LYMPHATICS

Abstract
During the absorption of digested fat administered to dogs by stomach tube, there is a hemolytic agent in lacteal lymph collected near the intestine, and also (usually in lesser conc.) in the thoracic duct lymph. The absorption of the products of fat digestion into the lymphatics instead of directly into the blood stream probably protects against hemolysis by the toxic agent. This hemolytic substance might be glycerol.
