The Clumsy Child

Abstract
Clumsiness is not a clinical diagnosis. It is merely a symptom due to a wide vari ety of causes. Clumsiness in children can result in be havior problems because of ridicule, unkind ness and discouragement, and the child's inability to keep up with his fellows in sport. Bad writing is especially liable to lead to emotional problems because the teacher is apt to blame the child for laziness and carelessness. The main principle in treatment is the correction of harmful attitudes towards the child—by making it clear to parents and teachers that the child has a genuine neuro logic deficit and he cannot help it.
