Abstract
Some results recently discussed by Chiu for interatomic coherence transfer are shown to have a simple physical interpretation, to be independent of collision model assumed, and to be applicable also to intra -atomic coherence transfer. A derivation using density matrices is presented which takes both depolarizing collisions and backtransfer of coherence into account. Keywords
