Abstract
Empirical studies of the organization and conduct of science have tended to rely on the separate measurement of production and citations. Since these measures are interrelated to the overall assessment of scientific contribution, / have proposed a composite Index which combines these two components Into an overall measure. The simplicity and broad applicability of the index makes it an attractive candidate for uniform measurement of scientific contribution to knowledge. Keywords
