Fabrication and Characterization of High- TcSuperconducting Continuous-Tube-Forming/Filling Bi(Pb)-2223/Ag Composites and Coils

Abstract
‘Sausaging,’ ‘blistering,’ ‘edge-cracking,’ and other processing related problems are one of the major concerns facing all producers of high temperature superconducting composite conductors. These processing phenomena normally occur in composites prepared from the conventional pov/der-in-tube (PIT) technique. A manufacturing process that enables the production of long and truly continuous, uniform superconducting wires and tapes is the method of continuous tube forming/filling (CTFF). This method has been devised to minimize processing time and cost, as well as reducing all processing related defects in ceramic composites to a minimum. The feasibility of the process has been shown using(BiPb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3C10 powder and silver sheath. Practicality has been demonstrated through the design and fabrication of double-pancake coils.
