Abstract

Direct evidence by ³¹P-n.m.r. spectroscopy is presented for the formation of a five-co-ordinate intermediate in the Arbuzov reaction of tervalent phosphorus esters with elemental chlorine or elemental bromine and benzenesulphenyl chloride.
