Abstract
Unusual spin-glass properties are found in the alloys (Ni1-xFex)1- delta S with delta approximately 0.04 and 0.020.96S is a non-magnetic matrix where iron impurities retain some characteristics of the Fe2+ ions including strong axial anisotropy which can exceed the interimpurity exchange. The compounds come close to realising the theoretical 'Ising spin glass'. In contrast to the canonical spin glasses, the susceptibility of Ni1- delta SFe is anisotropic, the remanence is very small, the peak at the freezing temperature is rather insensitive to applied field and a spin flop occurs at larger fields. Keywords
