Discussion of Professor Landauer's Paper

Abstract
Landauer''s symposium paper on phenocopies is discussed from the point of view of recent work in Drosophila. It is first shown that spontaneously occurring abnormalities are mostly low penetrant mutants or combinations of mutants. Recent work makes it probable, though not certain, that subthreshold iso-alleles are being brought out by chemical phenocopic treatment. In a general way Landauer''s conclusions and ours go in the same direction.
