Fresh dormant spores contain .apprx. 50% lipophilic material, mostly in the form of large circular droplets in the cytoplasm. The triglycerides contain primarily palmitic, oleic, and linoleic acids; traces of glycolipids including monogalactosyl diglyceride and digalactosyl diglyceride, and traces of phosphatidyl inositol and phosphatidyl choline are found, the latter in envelope membranes of proplastids and mitochondria. No chlorophyll or associated lipids were found in dormant spores, but appeared during germination.
