Abstract
Blood of rabbits given intramusc. injns. of 4000 Oxf. units per kg. of penicillin oil suspensions remained bacteriostatic longer than when aqueous penicillin solns. were injd. This was evidenced by absence of growth of Staphylococcus aureus in broth culture mixed with rabbit blood. The effect lasted 2 hrs. with oil suspensions but only 1 hr. with aqueous solns. Rabbits were infected with Spirocheta pallida. In one rabbit given aqueous penicillin twice per day up to 40,000 units, the testicles were not free of spirochetes until the 14th day. In 2 rabbits given oil suspensions once per day up to 40,000 units, the testicular lesions became negative in < 10 days. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
