Abstract
This paper synthesises and searches for commonalities in ethnographies of Native American and Torres Strait Islander classrooms. It presents confirming and disconfirming evidence for 11 assertions about such classrooms#shcommunities. These assertions are a starting point for developing a culturally responsive pedagogy and for teacher preparation. Keywords
