Abstract
Guinea pigs exposed to 95-99% O2 at ground level barometric pressure develop pulmonary edema within 48 hrs and die after 4 to 6 days. Quantitative studies of lung wt. and protein content showed a progressive increase in lung wt. and in soluble protein, indicative of extensive exudation. Pulmonary hemoglobin does not increase significantly in the entire lung, but local regions, as shown by histological examination, may be intensely congested. Keywords
