Preliminary SEU analysis of the SAMPEX MIL-STD-1773 space-flight data

Abstract
The Small Explorer Data System (SEDS) relies heavily on new technologies in the electrical designs. Among the key technologies utilized are fiber optics. The effects of the harsh space radiation environment on these spacecraft components can be quite severe. This paper takes a preliminary look at the single event upset (SEU) data seen during the early portion of SAMPEX flight (launched in July 1992) versus the ground test predictions. The new technologies are addressed along with the error handling abilities of the fiber optic system (MIL-STD-1773). The predicted SAMPEX radiation environment is discussed as well as the methodology of SEU rate prediction utilizing both cosmic ray and proton concerns. A comparison of the flight data to ground test predictions is discussed along with information concerning the significance of where and when the SEUs have occurred.This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
