Abstract
Autoantibody StudiesIn view of the evidence presented it seems unlikely that autoantibodies are responsible for the initiation of exophthalmos. On the other hand, there is some evidence that autoantibodies may play a part in endocrine exophthalmos. The infiltration of mononuclear cells in orbital tissues is not unlike that seen in the thyroid glands of some patients with thyrotoxicosis. Moreover, it has been reported that patients with exophthalmic goiter are more likely to have a significant and higher titer against thyroglobulin than hyperthyroid patients without proptosis or periorbital edema.170 , 171 Indeed, marked exophthalmos has been reported in a few patients with . . .Keywords
