Abstract
Urine specimens were obtained from 170 children with diabetes mellitus for culture and routine urinalysis. Unusual findings were not detected by routine urinalysis in this group except for the increased specific gravity, and sugar and acetone content. Only one child had a significant pyuria and this was associated with a urinary infection. Quantitative bacteriological studies revealed that the incidence of infection of the urinary tract among this group of juvenile diabetics is similar to that found in the general population of a comparable age.
