Abstract
In brief: Jock itch is an inflammatory skin condition of the groin. There is a burning itch of the inner thighs, the skin is tender, and the athlete is usually unable to be fully active. There are three major types: mechanical intertrigo (chafing), dermatophytosis (superficial fungus infection), and candidiasis (yeast infection). To prevent jock itch, the athlete should wear loose-fitting clothes that do not bind in the groin and keep the area clean, dry, and cool. Cool compresses will relieve swelling and inflammation. Low-potency steroid creams will help relieve inflammation, but stronger ones should be avoided because they may cause atrophic striae. Keywords
