Abstract
An analytical procedure by the finite strip method is presented for the local and the member buckling analysis of columns with any open or closed section composed of thin plates. Using this procedure the relations between local buckling of the flanges and the web of H-columns, the buckling of entire H-columns including flanges and web, and the member buckling associated with cross-sectional distortion are examined for two typical cross sections of H-shapes with various amounts of residual stresses. Keywords
