Auxin Transport and Geoelectric Potential in Corn Coleoptile Sections

Abstract
Corn (Zea mays) coleoptile segments readily transported indoleacetic acid IAA under anaerobic conditions as well as aerobic. Gravity-induced asymmetry of transport of IAA in horizontal segments was greater under anaerobic conditions than under aerobic conditions. As geoelectric potentials do not occur under anaerobic conditions, it is concluded i.hat geoelectric potentials are not a mandatory consequence of asymmetric auxin distribution. Anaerobic atmospheres roughly halved auxin absorption from donor blocks but had little effect on transport of the auxin absorbed.
