A MODEL FOR EXPLAINING THE MÖSSBAUER SPECTRA OF FERRIMAGNETIC SPINELS WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF DIAMAGNETIC SUBSTITUTION

Abstract
The magnetic behaviour, as observed with 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, of Fe2(1-y)Mg1+y TiyO4 spinels with y ≥ 0.4 is dominated by giant moment magnetic clusters. Using the theory of superparamagnetism, the size of the clusters could be calculated and was found to decrease with increasing concentration of non-magnetic ions. It is further shown that cluster formation is enhanced if only the average numbers of AB pairs is decreased
