Abstract
The ethnic and demographic characteristics of the Nice region [of France] are predisposing factors in the locally increased frequency of thalassemia. The use of electronic blood-cell counters enabled the identification of those patients presenting with microcytosis. In these patients fetal Hb and the level of Hb A2 were analyzed. From 900 examinations 270 heterozygote thalassemics were found. A statistical study showed an incidence of 2% .beta.-thalassemia in the Nice region. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
