Clinical Observations on Aphasia

Abstract
Sixty-five aphasicT)atients were examined by means of a specially developed battery of clinical tests, and results tabulated. Variability was observed on individual responses but consistent clinical patterns emerged which remained stable. All language functions were most commonly disturbed, but symptoms could be traced back to underlying auditory, visual, or motor involvement. Patterns identified were (1) a pattern of severe damage, (2) a pattern of impairment based on disturbance of auditory retention and recall, and (3) this same pattern complicated by superimposed motor involvement, visual involvement, or generalized deterioration.
