A NOTE ON THE STATUS OF ORNITHOPTERA ALLOTTEI (ROTHSCHILD) (LEPIDOPTERA: PAPILIONIDAE)

Abstract

Evidence relating to the status of the butterfly known as Ornithoptera allottei (Rothschild) is examined. It is concluded that circumstantial evidence overwhelmingly favours the view that these specimens are the product of occasional hybridization between the sympatric species O. urvilliana and O. victoriae.
