Abstract
The method of Medes and Padis showed an av. hourly cystine excretion of 6.36 X 10-6 M for a single individual. That the compound detd. was cystine was proved by isolation. 89% of cystine added could be estimated by the procedure. A comparative study of the methods of Virtue and Lewis (a), Sullivan (b), Rossouw and Wilken-Jorden (c), Shinohara (d) and Medes and Padis (e), showed that b was insufficiently sensitive; of the others, a gave the highest values and c the lowest. With e the results were more reproducible and recoveries of added cystine were higher than with d.
