Toxicity of Selected Insecticides Applied Topically to Lygus hesperus1

Abstract
Lygus hesperus Knight collected from alfalfa at 2 California locations were treated topically with a total of 19 insecticides during the period 1968–75. LD50 values were developed. For some insecticides, comparisons of toxicity are made between 2 or more years and between locations. The development of resistance by L. hesperus to malathion and trichlorfon is evident at both locations, and resistance to monocrotophos is evident at one location. There is a trend toward greater resistance to organophosphorous and carbamate insecticides at the location with a greater history of use of insecticides.
