Abstract
Ten indigenous rush species of Juncus L. subgenus Genuini (Buchenau 1906) are recognised, J. pallidus R. Br., J. procerus E. Mey., J. pauciflorus R. Br., J. gregiflorus L. A. S. Johnson, J. distegus sp. nov., J. australis Hook, f., J. amabilis sp. nov., J. filicaulis Buch., J. usitatus L. A. S. Johnson and J. sarophorus L. A. S. Johnson. Four species are regarded as introduced, J. effusus L., J. conglomeratus L., J. inflexus L. and J. subsecundus Wakefield. A key for the identification of all species is given. The species are divided into two groups on the basis of seedling morphology and stem anatomy; this grouping is related to other diagnostic characters in a table. All 10 indigenous species are self-fertile, and there was no inbreeding depression in four species tested. Data obtained from three artificial hybrids are also presented. Keywords
