Cell-Free Synthesis of Ornithine Aminotransferase of Rat Liver

Abstract
Mitochondrial ornithine aminotransferase was synthesized in a rabbit reticulocyte cell-free system using polysomal mRNA from rat liver. Upon analyzing the primary translation product by electrophoresis and fluorography, we found that omithine aminotransferase is synthesized not as a large precursor but as one with its authentic size. Free ribosomes were found to be the main site of synthesis of ornithine aminotransferase.
