Nucleophilic Additions of Phosphorus Compounds to Aromatic Methyleneamines

Abstract
Aromatic methyleneamines 2 or their precursors N-(alkoxymethyl)arylamines 1 react with lithium phosphides or secondary phosphines to give N-(phosphinomethyl)arylamines 3. In the same way, dialkyl or diaryl phosphites are added to 1 producing (arylaminomethyl)phosphonates 5. This new one-pot method allows the synthesis of phosphorus derivatives 3 and 5 in high yield.
