Abstract
Weekly dry-matter yield and monthly nutrient quality and dry-matter digestibility of fleshy fungi were evaluated for 3 yr in a pine plantation and a pine-hardwood community and for 2 yr in a bottomland hardwood community in east Texas [USA]. Fruiting patterns differed between sites, but on all area dry-matter yields were generally lowest during late winter and spring and highest during summer and/or autumn to midwinter. Crude protein content varied from a monthly low of 17.8% to a high of 31.9% with highest levels from late spring into autumn. P content ranged from a low of 0.31% to a high of 0.75% with the highest monthly levels during late spring and summer. Ca content of fruiting bodies varied from 0.02-0.08%. Dry-matter digestibility of mushrooms ranged from 52.7-75.4% and average 62.2%.This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
